MacKena "MacK" Dean is a trauma-informed Associate Therapist who takes a relational approach to therapy. She prioritizes building strong therapeutic relationships with clients and values an individualized approach that highlights clients' lived experience, multicultural identities, and the intersection of identity and adversity. MacKena focuses primarily on EMDR modality of treatment and is currently doing so through a psychodynamic lens; she also integrates EMDR treatment with other modalities such as IFS, DBT skills, Somatic Experiencing, and aspects of Polyvagal theory to assist in building insight, connecting to deeper-held beliefs, building self-trust, nervous system regulation, and the mind-body connection.
MacKena is experienced in treating adult clients with mild, moderate, and moderately severe symptom presentations in both individual and group therapy settings, including in IOP/PHP programs and outpatient therapy offices. She specializes in working with adult clients ages 20+ who have experienced trauma, have difficulty managing symptoms of depression and anxiety, clients who are neurodivergent, and clients who experience chronic pain and chronic illness. Currently at Vitalize Behavioral Health and Psychometrics, MacKena is a therapist in the Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). She works closely with individuals navigating complex mental health challenges where she integrates DBT and CBT with EMDR approaches, mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and psychodynamic approaches to help adult individuals achieve stability and long-term wellness through structured, supportive programming.
